(December 29, 2006)--A tornado warning Friday forced President Bush and First Lady Laura Bush to take shelter in an armored vehicle at their ranch near Crawford.
The White House says the vehicle was driven to a tornado shelter on the ranch.
The president and Mrs. Bush remained inside the vehicle, rather than enter the shelter, until the weather cleared.
They took their two Scottish terriers, Barney and Beazley, with them.
The National Weather Service issued the tornado warning in mid-afternoon, after a severe thunderstorm in the area had already spawned tornadoes.
Mr. Bush had been spending the day clearing cedar while fielding phone calls from world leaders and keeping abreast of Iraq's plans to execute Saddam Hussein.
The storms were part of a winter weather system that forecasters say could dump up to 10 inches of snow and up to 5 inches of rain in other parts of the state.
