The tornado damaged or destroyed homes, barns and outbuildings, downed power lines and felled large trees.
The tornado collapsed a personal care home for veterans on County Road 635 near Groesbeck, killing one resident and injuring five others, Groesbeck Fire Chief Charles Bratcher said, as it moved from Thornton across Highway 164 and toward the northern edge of Limestone County.
The tornado damaged homes along Highway 164, FM 1245, FM 2705 and FM 2838, Bratcher said.
“This came on us pretty quickly,” he said.
The tornado also downed high-tension power lines, leaving some residents in the dark.
Power company crews were working to restore service Friday night.
Injured storm survivors were transported by ambulance or private vehicle to Limestone Medical Center in Groesbeck.
