SALIDA, Colo. (July 10, 2009)--A Texas man who was volunteering at a Boy Scout camp in Colorado has died in a rafting accident.

Police said David Campbell, 49, of Carrollton died Thursday after his raft capsized in the Arkansas River.

Campbell was a volunteer with the Rocky Mountain Boy Scouts High Adventure Base at Poncha Springs.

His raft capsized in a Class 3 rapid.

Boy Scout officials told The Pueblo Chieftain that Campbell lost consciousness after he was pulled out of the river, and that resuscitation efforts failed.

The death was the third rafting related fatality on the Arkansas River this week.

Jimmy Nakama, 40, of Littleton, and Thomas Spicknall, 36, of Centennial, drowned Tuesday after they were
thrown from a private raft in the Pine Creek Rapids section.

He was probably doing something he liked to do. Most adult scouters have as much fun as the youth! Rest in peace, YIS.

I'm sure sorry to hear of these deaths. These guys volunteer for free to help the boys in the Scouts. Sympathy goes to their Families and Friends.
