MONT BELVIEU (July 13, 2009)--A Southeast Texas deputy sheriff is dead after an effort to shut off the water at a mobile home was met with gunfire.

The shooting Monday of the Chambers County sheriff's deputy led to a standoff between state and local law enforcement and a man who was holed up in the mobile home.

A sheriff's spokeswoman says the gunman at the Tower Terrace mobile home park just east of Mont Belvieu fired on arriving officers and authorities think he is heavily armed.

Spokeswoman Patti Jett told the Houston Chronicle that a meter reader arrived at the trailer to shut off the water about 9:30 a.m. Monday when a woman inside the trailer fired at her.

The reader managed to get to a neighbor's home and called for deputies.

I agree with the others--show a little Texas justice--blow them up with a granade or something. No need for a trial--obviously GUILTY. Just end it now before another innocent person gets killed. My prayers go out for the family of the officer.
