(January 5, 2007)--A climber stuck on the edge of a cliff at Big Bend National Park used a personal locator beacon to summon help.
The New Year's Eve rescue of the 48-year-old San Antonio man marked the first time a personal locator beacon had been used by a hiker to call for help in the remote park on Texas' border with
Mexico.
The park's acting superintendent, David Elkowitz, says the rescue could have an impact on park procedure.
He says it is an option for people, but not necessarily one that they'll recommend yet.
The man was in good condition when he was found.
