NAVARRO County (July 20, 2009)-An East Texas man is dead and a woman injured after the motorcycle they were riding ran off the road Saturday in Navarro County.

The accident happened just before 12:30 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of State Highway 309 and U.S. Highway 287, about 19 miles southwest of Corsicana.

A Department of Public Safety dispatcher told News 10 the driver of a 1999 Harley Davison Road King motorcycle was traveling southbound on S.H. 309 when he failed to negotiate a turn and ran off the road.

The driver, Donald Ray Galloway, 53, of Kilgore, was taken to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler with life threatening injuries.

Galloway died at 7:59 a.m. Sunday in the hospital from the injuries he sustained in the accident.

A passenger, Martha Jane Dudley, 52, of Marshall, was taken to Navarro Regional Hospital with a broken arm and other contusions.

Dudley was listed in stable condition early Monday morning.

Neither occupant of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet, the DPS dispatcher said.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

wearing a helmet is optional/personal preference. i've seen people die with and without a helmet. when it's your time it's your time.

First, seatbelts on a motorcycle is a ludicrous idea..enough said. Secondly, until the law changes helmets will be optional. I ride and I wear one, but that is my choice. Also, we have more people burdening the health system due to unhealthy life styles (smoking, drug use, ect) than unhelmeted bike riders ever will!
