GRIMES COUNTY (July 20 2009)--A retired Houston-area cardiologist, who, along with his wife, donated money and art for a new Baylor faculty center that bears his name, died Sunday afternoon on his Grimes County ranch.

Grimes County Sheriff Investigators said the body of Dr. Faber McMullen was found tangled in a post-hole auger, near his home on the 11300 block of F.M. 362, a mile south of 105 E.

Grimes County Sheriff's Lt. Blake Jarvis said Monday McMullen, 79, who practiced in Bellaire, died when his clothing, likely a glove, became entangled in an auger.

He would have been 80 Monday.

Lt. Blake Jarvis said McMullen's son, who lives across the street, discovered his father around 1:40 p.m. and called 911.

In October 2008, McMullen and his wife Roxanna dedicated the 10,900-square foot McMullen-Connally Faculty Center in tribute to McMullen’s parents.

The McMullens also donated a collection of more than 300 pieces of art and artifacts displayed in the facility.

The couple met at Baylor in 1950.

Faber McMullen graduated in 1953 and earned his medical doctor degree in 1956 from the Baylor College of Medicine.

Roxanna McMullen attended Baylor from 1950 to 1952 and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in liturgical art in 1972 from Sacred Heart Dominican College.

Don't beat up on "mom". It is all okay. Although it was tragic my dad died doing what he enjoyed and he believed heartily that Psalm 139 says that we each have an appointed number of days. We are doing well and appreciate all the prayers and concern that have been poured out in our behalf. We have felt them all, and we are at peace. We are glad that dad died doing what he loved best. We are of course sad that he is gone. Thanks, Faber McMullen III, Navasota, Texas
