(January 9, 2007)--The president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, the Rev. R. Albert Mohler, has been released from the intensive care unit at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, Ky., according to a school official.

The 47-year-old evangelical leader was admitted to intensive care last Friday to treat blood clots that developed in his lungs after he underwent abdominal surgery.

Russell Moore, dean of the seminary's School of Theology, said in a written statement that Mohler is in good spirits following a difficult weekend.

He says Mohler "looks strong, is in remarkably good spirits and is even cracking jokes."

Mohler has been president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary for 14 years.

He also hosts a radio program and edits a blog focusing on moral, political and cultural issues.
