WACO (July 27, 2009)--Tara Allison Hodges, 27, a former teacher at Brazos Middle School in Waco, was sentenced Monday to 10 years in state prison for each of 10 counts against her.

Hodges pleaded guilty last month to charges of improper sexual conduct in the incidents involving a male student while she was teaching at Brazos Middle School.

The victim in the case was 14 years old at the time.

State District Judge Ralph Strother sentenced Hodges to serve ten concurrent 10-year teams.

Strother told family members gathered in the 19th State District Court he would have sentenced Hodges to more time, but he deferred to the district attorney's recommendation in the case.

Attorney Russ Hunt said Hodges surrendered her teacher certification and will never teach again.

He said she also must register as a sex offender.

Hodges, 27, was named in a 10-count indictment in November 2008 after she was arrested and charged in August 2008.

The investigation into the alleged relationship started after the teacher filed a false report of a sexual assault, authorities said.

According to the affidavit issued in August for Hodges’ arrest, the relationship started on June 6, 2008.

The affidavit says Hodges picked the student up in her car that evening and drove him to her apartment where the two smoked marijuana.

After that, the affidavit says Hodges performed oral sex on the student before having sex with him.

The two had sex at least ten separate times, and on several of those occasions, they smoked marijuana, the affidavit said.

Investigators said the student was given money and on two occasions, shoes were purchased for him.
