Ice Storm Turns Deadly

(January 13, 2007)—A powerful ice storm has left at least six people dead on icy roads in Oklahoma and Missouri.

Tens of thousands of people are without power.

The potentially dangerous storm is now heading toward Illinois, where an ice storm watch is posted until Monday morning.

A weather forecaster says the icy storm affecting a wide section of the middle of the country could be a "paralyzing" and "long-term" event.

The threat of freezing rain, sleet and ice was edging into Central Texas Saturday.

Freezing precipitation is possible Saturday in western counties of Central Texas and by Saturday night icing is expected along the Interstate 35 corridor.

To the northwest Saturday in Montague County, authorities were reporting freezing rain and accumulating ice.

Northbound Highway 287 north of Bowie was closed because of ice.
