FORT HOOD (July 28, 2009)—Firefighters from nearly a dozen Fort Hood area departments are involved in the effort to contain a massive wildfire that’s burning on Fort Hood.

The fire, which started on Sunday, has scorched about 3,000 acres in the vicinity of Crittenberger Range and the Owl Creek Assault Course between East and West Range Roads.

Officials said the fire was about 50 percent contained late Tuesday afternoon.

The Fort Hood Fire Department is working with game wardens, the Forest Service and crews from Killeen, Copperas Cove, Gatesville, Belton, Nolanville, Harker Heights, Sparta Valley, Flat, Stillhouse, Southwest Bell County, and Morgans Point.

Soldiers from the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment are providing support from the air and 101 soldiers are working the fire line with hand tools to keep the flames from spreading, Fort Hood said.

Hey Really From Fort Hood, I heard big guns being fired off this past weekend. Funny how the fire started this past weekend. The National Guard was probably training. They should not be allowed to fire any kind of ammo during a Burn Ban!!!

You must be an idiot! You dont even know how the fire started! It started near Pidcoke, and could have easily been started by someone smoking a cigarette, or something as simple as that. You also have to remember, Nobody is in the field right now! 1st CAV is deployed, 1ID and 3rd ACR just returned from Iraq, and 4th ID is MOVING OUT!!!!
