FORT HOOD (July 29, 2009)—A massive wildfire on Fort Hood that crews from the post and nearly a dozen area departments have battled since Sunday was 100 percent contained Wednesday afternoon.
Fort Hood fire services will patrol the area through at least Thursday morning to watch for flare-ups, the post said.
The fire scorched about 3,000 acres in the vicinity of Crittenberger Range and the Owl Creek Assault Course between East and West Range Roads.
The Fort Hood Fire Department worked with game wardens, the Forest Service and crews from Killeen, Copperas Cove, Gatesville, Belton, Nolanville, Harker Heights, Sparta Valley, Flat, Stillhouse, Southwest Bell County, and Morgans Point to control the fire.
Soldiers from the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment provided support from the air and 101 soldiers worked the fire line with hand tools to keep the flames from spreading, Fort Hood said.
