AWOL Texas Soldier Charged With Capital Murder
An AWOL Texas soldier was in custody Thursday, charged with capital murder in the shooting death of his mother.

AUSTIN (July 30, 2009)--A soldier arrested in a Texas border city was in custody Thursday, charged with capital murder in the shooting death of his mother.

Pvt. Travis Wayne was ordered held in lieu of bonds totaling $1.1 million, Travis County sheriff's spokesman Roger Wade said.

Baczewski was initially arrested Monday night in the Rio Grande Valley town of Alamo on a charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Baczewski is charged in the death of his mother, Violetta Baczewski, 54, whose body was found at her Austin home Sunday.

Baczewski is a Fort Benning, Ga., vehicle mechanic who was reported absent without leave on July 10.
