(January 16, 2007)—Gov. Rick Perry's campaign reported raising $2.4 million in the final two months of 2006, a period mostly after the November election.
According to figures released Tuesday Perry’s campaign raised $2.4 million from Oct. 29 through Dec. 31.
The campaign had $1.2 million in cash on hand at the end of the period.
The biggest contribution came from the Republican Governor's Association political action committee, which gave $500,000.
Wealthy businessman Harold Simmons and his wife contributed $250,000.
Other sizable donations came from financial and oil and gas political committees.
State political candidates were required to file campaign finance reports Tuesday with the Texas Ethics Commission.
The reports of unsuccessful Democratic gubernatorial candidate Chris Bell and independent Carole Keeton Strayhorn were not immediately available Tuesday.
Independent candidate Kinky Friedman reported raising more than $154,000 during the period.
His campaign had more than $87,000 in cash on hand as of Dec. 31.
He also reported $110,000 in total outstanding loan principal.
