Grenade Explosion Kills Fort Hood Soldier In Iraq
Post officials have released the name of a 39-year-old Fort Hood soldier from Mississippi that was killed in a July grenade attack in Iraq.

FORT HOOD (August 04, 2009)-Post officials have released the name of a 39-year-old Fort Hood soldier from Mississippi that was killed in a July grenade attack in Iraq.
Staff Sgt. Johnny R. Polk of Gulfport, Miss., died July 25 at a U.S. military hospital in Germany of wounds suffered in the July 23 attack.
According to the statement, Polk's vehicle was struck by an anti-tank grenade in Kirkuk, Iraq.
Staff Sgt. Polk was assigned to the 3rd Battalion in the 1st Cavalry Division.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon.
