WASHINGTON, DC (August 5, 2009)--U.S. Representative Chet Edwards announced that the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has committed $2.4 million in federal stimulus funding for maintenance and rehabilitation improvements on US 84 from SH 31 in McLennan County to SH 14 in Limestone County.

"This is good news for Central Texas. I am glad TxDOT reevaluated its list of projects receiving stimulus funds to include construction in McLennan and Limestone counties," said Edwards.

"These funds will create jobs, and promote the long term economic development in Central Texas."

The project was added to the list of TXDOT maintenance and rehabilitation projects set to begin in the fall after original projects came in under budget.

McLennan County has now received $36.2 million in funds from the stimulus. Limestone County has now received $3.3 million in funds from the stimulus.

LN--because the gas tax isn't indexed to inflation. reThugs have fought against raising it for years just so they can say "i didn't raise taxes" to get reelected by nuts who think the President was born in Kenya. Be thankful that ya'll have Chet instead of John "vacant space" Carter in your district!!!!!!

I bet the people of Copperas Cove and Killeen don't know that the big hold up on these projects isn't the contractor at all but the state trying to slow everything down so that they end up making more money off of the jobs by penalizing the contractor for taking so long. There are a whole lot of politics invovled with any type of project that the government funds! Companies are having to cut profits to very low percentages just to keep their employees working so they can feed their families. Often it ends up being a loss to these companies....then the layoffs get worse. Edwards would do well to make sure that these jobs stay local and have a positive effect on our local economy.

This money is not creating jobs these people already work for a construction company. We are just spending more money.
