WACO (August 06, 2009)-Waco Police have identified the man floating face-down found late Thursday morning in the Brazos River.
Police say the man was identified as Matthew Monta Bailey, 24, of Waco.
Waco Police went on to say Bailey was also the man who fled his vehicle and jumped into the Brazos River from the Waco Drive Bridge on Tuesday.
Police and rescue crews were called to the area of Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard between the Waco Drive Bridge and Bledsoe-Miller Park just before noon Thursday.
A partially-clothed figure, later identified as Bailey, was located floating face-down in Brazos River amongst a pile of partially submerged brush, about 100 yards south of the Waco Drive Bridge.
Bailey was recovered around 12:15 p.m. by Waco Fire personnel operating a rescue boat in shallow water about 15- to 18-feet from the east shore of the river.
Police say Bailey was the same man driving a car that was rear-ended by another in the middle of the Waco Drive Bridge late Tuesday night.
The man abandoned the car and jumped from the bridge into the Brazos River.
Waco Police officers closed the bridge in both directions while crews searched for the missing man.
Police say they found drugs in the abandoned car.

I think he did a belly buster.
I don't think the guy was trying to kills himself, it just happened that way. He probably got cramps or snagged by one of many branches in the river. He just wanted to escape the police, not this world. May God rest his soul. PS to all those who thought he was an illegal, that shows how much you know...
I think this is a good example of why the "War on Drugs" is an outrage. Our prison system is horrible and overcrowded with non-violent offenders, and this poor dude didn't want to be apart of it. And the fact that police didn't find him right away shows you what an inefficient, overpaid, and lazy policy force we have. Humph! And they want more money!
