(January 21, 2007)--When former teacher Barbara Morgan blasts off into space this year she knows people will be thinking about the late Christa McAuliffe.

Morgan said she will be among them.

Morgan was McAuliffe's understudy for the 1986 Challenger flight, which ended with the shuttle blowing up and the seven-person crew killed.

Morgan, who's now 55, is ready to enter space in June as a full-fledged member of NASA's astronaut corps.

Morgan, who is NASA's first "educator astronaut," says she isn't deterred by the accident that killed McAuliffe, who taught in New Hampshire.

Morgan says you weigh the risks.

Morgan spoke to reporters after an hour of teaching kindergartners, fifth-graders and eighth-graders in the IMAX theater at Space Center Houston.

Morgan is a Fresno, Calif., native who now lives in Houston.
