MARLIN (August 12, 2009)-Working in cooperation with undercover police officers, the Marlin Police Department spearheaded a month-long investigation that concluded with four arrests and the seizure of several dangerous drugs.
Marlin Police raided the residence at 520 Rickelman St. around 3:00 a.m. Wednesday and arrested four people in the house.
Marlin Interim Police Chief Darrell Allen told News 10 that police officers recovered powdered cocaine, crack-cocaine, marijuana, codeine and other dangerous prescription drugs from the residence.
Police also recovered approximately $700 cash that is believed to have been obtained through the sale of illegal narcotics, Chief Allen said.
Police took into custody Robert Grant, 47, Tavia Sherman, 41, and Cedric Sherman, 18, in connection with the investigation; the three could face drug possession charges including possession of controlled substance.
Another individual, Vickie Harris, 50, was in the residence at the time of the raid and was arrested on unrelated charges.
All individuals were awaiting arraignment at the Falls County Jail Wednesday morning.
The Marlin Police Department based the month-long investigation on a complaint made by a neighborhood resident in late June that reported several strangers coming and going during all hours of the night.
After canvassing the neighborhood throughout the month of July, undercover officers narrowed their investigation to the house at 504 Rickelman, where police officers executed their search warrant Wednesday morning.
Chief Allen told News 10 the house was within 500 feet of a church that classifies itself as a drug-free zone.
Because of the proximity, the drug charges could be elevated to the federal level, Chief Allen said.
The newly installed interim police chief encouraged the citizens of Marlin to continue to report any unusual activity that occurs in their neighborhood and made a promise to thoroughly investigate each report.

To Charlie: Codiene is a narcotic Analgesic. Yes, sometimes it is mixed with Tylenol to make Tylenol # 3. However, it is a controlled substances. Therefore, you cannot obtain it or have it in your possession without a valid perscritpion. Codeine is addictive. It is is the same family of drugs as morphine and other opiates
Finally the PD are doing something. I used to work in Marlin, and I was afraid to go into town after dark.
Nothing sucks more than having to deal with deranged drug addicts. All these people abusing any type of substance need to be allowed to overdose so they kill themselves so society doesn't have to deal with them. In fact, I would love to stick every addict in Waco and the surrounding areas in a room with all the cocaine or prescription drugs they could ever want, and society would be rid of them within a single day.
