(January 23, 2007)—Waco rocker Ted Nugent says an Associated Press report that claims he shouted remarks about non-English speakers that were offensive to some of those who attended Gov. Rick Perry’s inaugural ball last week is untrue.
Nugent told News Ten he’s often the target of such reporting because of his unequivocal stand o gun rights and his enthusiastic support for hunting, fishing and trapping.
Nugent also drew criticism for his choice of T-shirts for the performance last week in Austin.
He wore a T-shirt emblazoned with the Confederate flag.
Gary Bledsoe with the Texas NAACP says the Confederate battle flag is never appropriate.
But Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson didn't have a problem with Nugent's use of the Confederate flag.
Patterson said Thursday he didn't think it was inappropriate, saying part of Nugent's "shtick" is to generate controversy.
Nugent told News Ten the flag is a symbol of defiance.
