WACO (August 14, 2009)—The China Spring ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously early Thursday morning to hire former Mt. Pleasant ISD Deputy Superintendent Dr. Jason McCullough as the district’s new superintendent.
Trustees unanimously named McCullough, 39, the sole finalist for the position on July 22, but under state law had to wait 21 days before extending a contract.
The board met at 7:15 a.m. Thursday to vote because McCullough wanted to be part of a new employee induction later Thursday morning and so he would be on board before the start of the new school year.
“I am look forward to working with the board of trustees, the administration and staff, the students, and the community to make this excellent district an district wide exemplary district and produce students who are going to make positive influences on our community and be tomorrow’s leaders not only for our state but also for our country,” McCullough said.
McCullough has also served as superintendent of the Hubbard ISD and as an assistant principal in the Harts Bluff ISD.
He holds degrees from Ouachita Baptist University, Texas A&M Commerce and Stephen F. Austin State University.
McCullough replaces Dr. George Kazanas who was named in April to fill the vacant superintendent’s job in Wichita Falls.
Kazanas had been China Spring’s superintendent for the past 10 years.
He joined the China Spring district as an assistant middle school principal in 1994 and became superintendent in 1999.
