CORPUS CHRISTI (August 13, 2009)--A Nueces County jury Thursday found a former Corpus Christi State School employee guilty of causing injury to a disabled person in the notorious "fight club" case.

Jesse Salazar was charged with involvement with the orchestration of late-night fights among residents of the Texas state facility for the developmentally disabled.

After the verdict was returned, Salazar testified that he had grown close to some of the residents seen in the videos and was sorry for what happened.

He said he began seeing the fights about two weeks after he started in August 2007.

Salazar, 26, was the first of six ex-employees charged in the case to stand trial.

He could face two to 10 years in prison.

At the start of the trial, there was the possibility of a lesser charge and sentence range, but those options weren't included in the final charge given to the jury.
