Man Wanted In Construction Fraud Case Arrested

(January 23, 2007)—Damon Lynn Snipes was in custody Tuesday after Waco police arrested him on a Killeen Police Department warrant charging theft over $1,500 in connection with a construction fraud case.

Snipes is the owner of Snipes Construction of Waco, police said.

The warrant stems from an investigation of a complaint from Military Fencing in Killeen, whose owner signed a contract last fall for construction of a building and wrote a check up front for $9,000 to cover the cost of materials.

The check was cashed, but work never started and the contractor never applied for a building permit, police said.

The business owner tried repeatedly to reach the contractor, but never did, police said.

During the course of the investigation, Killeen police identified another victim in Meridian who had provided a down payment for work that was never started.

Police are asking residents who may also have been victims, but who haven’t reported the fraud to contact Detective Charles Dinwiddie at 254 501-8964.
