SUGAR LAND (August 18, 2009)--Police in a Houston suburb shot and killed a fleeing bank robbery suspect Tuesday after he they say pointed a gun at an officer.

The Houston Chronicle reported that Sugar Land police haven't released the name of the dead man or the officer who shot him.

Police spokesman Doug Adolph said the shooting happened just after 9 a.m. Tuesday after a Wachovia Bank branch was robbed and the robber fled in a silver 2008 Nissan Altima down U.S. Highway 59.

An officer spotted the car and pulled it over.

Authorities said the man then pulled a gun, aimed at the officer who fired at least once, killing the suspect.

Police recovered a gun and an undisclosed amount of cash.
