KILLEEN (August 19, 2009)—A Killeen woman who took her 11-month-old to a Temple hospital for treatment of a cut on his head has been charged with injury to a child.

Killeen police told News 10 Vanessa Lynn Smith is in the Bell County Jail under $100,000 bond after doctors at Scott & White Hospital, in Temple, reported the injury to police.

The 11-month-old child suffered a severe gash to the back of his head.

Killeen police said the story Smith told them about how the child was hurt simply did not add up.

Police investigators say they have determined the child was injured when a door was suddenly opened and the edge of the door struck the child.

first of all, i am pretty sure the doctor witnessed something that was not righ or he would not have taken her children. the gush had to be more severe than just a hit from a door. if you are innocent there is nothing you would have to lie about at the hospital. i am a victim of child abuse. no one used to say anything when my sibings and i used to get beat! i know my teachers knew but everyone was scared to step out. change starts with us! a child does not deserve that. God Bless the doctor who took a stand and cared about the child and spoke up!

If i had to go to jail evertime my boy got hurt bumping into stuff I would never breath free air. The problem is that she has said something wrong to the police and doctors and they have done thier job to protect the child. Either way this picture is terrible and makes her look like a hardened baby beater.
