Deputies say around 2 p.m. yesterday afternoon Rosalie Eva Szymanski was driving a 2004 Ford pickup heading south on Highway 90 when she moved to the shoulder to allow other vehicles to pass.
Szymanski's vehicle left the roadway, struck a culvert then a tree, trapping her inside the truck, which quickly became engulfed in flames.
She was pronounced dead at the scene, her body has been taken to Conroe for autopsy.
The passenger, 29-year-old Gerardo Aroldo Lopez, was transported to Grimes Saint Joseph in Navasota with a laceration to the head.
The Grimes County Sheriff's Department and volunteers from both Anderson and Navasota responded to the accident.

Dave in Belton,it is not illegal to drive on the shoulder if you are allowing a faster moving vehicle to pass. It is actually required by law if you are traveling 5 or more mph under the posted speed limit to move to the improved shoulder to allow traffic to pass. If you don't you are impeding traffic and in violation of the law.
