BRUCEVILLE-EDDY (August 21, 2009)—Manslaughter charges were filed Monday against a Little River-Academy couple who own the pickup truck involved in a hit-and-run in 2008 that left one Central Texas teenager dead and another seriously injured.
Gregory Wade McLean, 39, and Jackie Lynn McLean McLean, 40, surrendered to McLennan County authorities Monday afternoon, three days after they were named in warrants charging manslaughter that stem from the May 9, 2008 hit-and-run that left Bree Anne Breichner, 17, of Bruceville-Eddy dead and James Preston Nolan, 20, of Valley Mills, critically injured.
Both were released after posting $20,000 bonds.
Nolan, who was 18 at the time of the accident, and Breichner were walking south on the I-35 frontage road after leaving the Bruceville-Eddy Mayfest just before midnight, when the 2007 Dodge truck hit them.
A Bell County sheriff’s deputy found the truck abandoned in Little River-Academy after a motorist reported a possible accident.
It was impounded and turned it over to the Texas Department of Public Safety Crime Lab for processing.
DNA evidence recovered from the truck formed a big part of the investigators’ case.
