(February 5, 2007)--The Massachusetts attorney general says her office has reached a $2 million dollar settlement with Turner Broadcasting and a marketing company in the wake of last week's bomb scare in the Boston area.
Under the settlement, there will be no civil or criminal penalties against Turner Broadcasting or Interference, Inc. of New York.
The companies were behind the placement of electronic devices in and around Boston that were intended to promote a Cartoon Network show.
Bomb squads responded to reports of the devices on bridges and near a subway station.
The companies will pay $1 million to reimburse state, federal and local law enforcement agencies for the cost of responding to the incident.
The remaining $1 million will be so-called "good will" funds, going toward homeland security and community programs.
The attorney general also says her office is in discussions with lawyers for Peter Berdovsky and Sean Stevens about resolving the criminal charges against the two men who actually hid the electronic devices.
