(February 5, 2007)—Dr. Adolph Mares, Jr. has been named chief of medical staff at Killeen’s Metroplex Hospital, the hospital announced Monday.

Mares succeeds Dr. Sundaram Sukumar who held the position from 2005 to 2006.

Mares has worked with Austin Heart P.A. since 2001 and is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease.

He served as vice chief of staff/president-elect of Metroplex from 2005 to 2006.

He says one of his first goals is to improve communication between the medical staff, nursing staff and hospital administration.

"My goal is to build the means of communication," he said. "This has always been the critical point that has inhibited involvement of the medical staff and the hospital."

"My ultimate goal as chief of staff is to improve patient care" Mares said.

"Building the communication among the medical staff is really the key to accomplishing this."
