ROSWELL, N.M. (August 30, 2009)--A Texas man was killed when the big rig he was driving crashed on a state road in Roswell, N.M., New Mexico authorities said.

The New Mexico Department of Public Safety identified the victim as Manuel Navarrette, 45, of El Paso.

Authorities said the rig was towing a tanker trailer loaded with crude oil when it rolled over Friday afternoon on State Road 31.

The DPS says Navarrette was ejected from the rig and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said driver inattention and failure to wear a seat belt were contributing factors in the fatal crash.

Crude oil that leaked was contained and the trailer was off-loaded into other trailers.

A hazardous material clean up company performed a clean up of the remaining crude oil and contaminated soil.
