(February 7, 2007)—The seven crewmembers and passengers aboard a Marine Crops CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter died Wednesday when the helicopter went down in Iraq’s Anbar Province, the military confirms.

The helicopter went down about 20 miles northwest of Baghdad, Army Maj. Gen. William B. Caldwell IV, Multinational Force Iraq spokesman, said, during routine operations.

Insurgents claimed credit for downing the helicopter, but Caldwell would not comment on what may have caused the helicopter to go down.

"The investigation is going on as we speak," he said

It was the fifth crash of a US helicopter in a little more than two weeks in Iraq.
