(February 8, 2007)— One-time Mexia chicken restaurant waitress turned Playboy model turned heiress turned reality TV star Anna Nicole Smith died Thursday afternoon after she was found unconscious in her hotel room at the Hard Rock Cafe and Casino in Hollywood, Fla., a law enforcement source told CNN.

The source told CNN Smith, 39, was dead on arrival at Memorial Regional Hospital.

A Hollywood, Fla. police official said Smith’s nurse called 911 shortly before 12:40 p.m. CST.

Smith’s bodyguard administered CPR, the police official said.

The death comes a day after Smith and the diet company TrimSpa were targeted in a class-action lawsuit that alleges TrimSpa's marketing is false or misleading.

Among other things, the suit wants to stop Smith and TrimSpa from making claims that people who use the pills can lose a lot of weight.

Smith is a spokeswoman for TrimSpa.

Last month, the Federal Trade Commission announced TrimSpa would pay $1.5 million to settle allegations that the diet-products company's weight-loss claims were unsubstantiated.

The suit was the latest in a series of woes for the former Mexia waitress.

Her son Daniel, whose father still lives in Mexia, died last year in her hospital room in the Bahamas shortly after she gave birth to a daughter.

Since then she had faced challenges to her residency and questions about the baby girl’s paternity.

She was still locked in a legal fight over the estate of oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall, II, whom she married in 1994 when she was 26 and he was 89.

Marshall died the following year.

Smith ended up in a long-running battle with Marshall’s son Pierce over her late husband’s estate.

She won a $474 million judgment, which was later cut to about $89 million then to nothing.

The US Supreme Court ruled in May Smith could continue to pursue the inheritance in California courts.
