WACO (September 5, 2009) - An accident sent a Waco police officer to the hospital Saturday evening.

Police at the scene of the accident say the officer, whose name wasn't released, was driving northbound in the 9000 block area of China Spring Highway, at about 6:30 p.m.

When he noticed a vehicle commit a traffic violation, he made a U-turn in the road.

A black Chevy truck then hit the driver's side of the police car.

The officer was taken by ambulance to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center with reported neck and back pain.

Information about his injuries wasn’t immediately available.

The 21-year-old driver of the truck was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Both vehicles were towed away from the scene.

Waco police say an investigation into the accident is underway.

This story proves that many cops feel as if they are ABOVE THE LAW. Considering the cop believed that he could make a U-turn at any moment, without looking, backs that assumption up. I hope the cop was suspended without pay to learn his lesson. If he had so happened killed the driver of the truck, then he should have been fired without question. Note to cops: PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH.

To truck's cousin. The officer turned his lights on before he ever pulled onto the shoulder. I was behind your cousin and saw the officer pull to the shoulder with his lights on. If you had been with your cousin in the truck, then you would have known that. This was just an accident. Happens all the time. Just glad both are doing ok.

As a Police officer myself I know that it is hard to see people coming from behind you at times with all the stuff in our cars. However to me no violation is too important to look and even stick your head out the window if need be. BUT, this was obviously an accident. even if the officer was at fault im sure he didnt do it on purpose. Just needs to be more careful next time. And everybody speeds even if its just a little bit. But even if he was going 20 under,I doubt he would have been able to stop in time. God bless them both. Hope they both recover.
