NAVASOTA (September 8, 2009)--Two people were killed and a Texas A&M student was seriously injured Monday night in a head-on crash on Highway 6 in Navasota.
According to police, Donna Benoit, 56, of Navasota was driving south in a northbound lane just after 9:00 Monday night, when her vehicle hit another car head-on.
Benoit and a passenger in the other car, Manikandan Ramasamy, 24, died at the scene, authorities said.
According to Texas A&M's website, Ramasamy was a research engineering associate for the Texas Engineering Experiment Station.
The driver of the car hit, Adhitya Vidyasankar, 24, of Houston, was taken by helicopter to Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston, where he was listed in critical condition Tuesday afternoon.
Vidyasankar is listed as a student at Texas A&M University, but no other information was available.
Navasota police are trying to figure out why Benoit was going the wrong direction, because that part of the highway is divided.
An autopsy was ordered,
Authorities said they do not suspect alcohol in the crash.
