(February 13, 2007)--A 29-year-old South Texas woman has been charged with capital murder in the bathtub drowning of her three-year-old daughter.
Laura Ann Garza remains in the Atascosa County Jail in Jourdanton .
Bail is set at $1 million.
Sheriff's deputies say Mina Renee Garza's grandfather found the girl unconscious Monday at the family home in the small town of Charlotte about 45 miles south of San Antonio.
The child was pronounced dead at South Texas Regional Medical Center in nearby Jourdanton.
Chief Deputy David Soward says the grandfather was the only person in the mobile home with the child.
Soward says the child's mother, Laura Ann Garza, confessed at the scene to drowning the girl and later provided a written statement.
Soward declined to reveal a motive.
Child Protective Services says the family had no record of previous investigations.
Garza had lived with her father since last year, when she and her husband separated.
She and Armando Garza filed for divorce on June 28 in Bexar County.
Soward says the husband retained custody of Mina, who was the couple's only child.
She was visiting the mother when she died.
