WACO (September 19, 2009)--There was another tense moment between the independent Baylor Alumni Association and Baylor University this weekend as a representative of the Baylor Board of Regents spoke at an association meeting Saturday morning.

One of the proposals presented was for the independent alumni association to become part of the University.

There has been friction between the group and the university since the era of President Robert B. Sloan Jr. when the association took issue with some of the elements of Baylor's ambitious 2012 plan.

Sloan dropped a service contract with the alumni group for the 2003-2004 fiscal year, forcing the organization to become fully independent.

The contract was later restored, but, in 2007, Sloan's successor Dr. John Lilley pulled funding from the Alumni Association's annual operating budget.

David Lacy, the President of the Alumni Association, told News 10 after the meeting no decision was reached, but said the group has a lot to consider.

Lacy said the alumni group has accomplished a lot since separating from the University so any decision to reach another agreement with the school will be taken seriously.

No deadline was set for a decision.

The meeting comes during Parent's Weekend at Baylor and on the same weekend as Baylor's first home football game against the University of Connecticut.
