HEATH (September 21, 2009)--A bus that was carrying 18 members of a high school swim team, their coach and a driver ended up in the shallow edge of a pond Monday morning after going off a road in the Dallas area.

A spokeswoman for Rockwall-Heath High School, Sheri Fowler, said the students were returning from an aquatics center Monday morning when the bus veered off FM 5490, about 20 miles northeast of Dallas.

Fowler told The Associated Press that the students and coach walked off the bus through the back door, which initially was not in the water.

No on appeared to be hurt, she said.

She said five students were taken to hospitals, as a precaution, to be checked for head and neck injuries.

Fowler said says the bus driver was also taken to a hospital.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

It happened on the 20th anniversary of a Texas school bus accident that left 21 students dead.

Twenty years ago Monday, a school bus and a soft drink truck collided and the bus, with 81 children aboard, plunge into a water-filled pit in Alton in the Lower Rio Grande Valley.

I'm a parent of one of the swimmers I just got off the phone with my son, he is in Texas to be on that swim team I'm in AZ It was a shock to hear about it and see all the coverage this far away my son says everyone is doing fine. So I guess if we can be thankful for that and see a little irony in NOW thats it over I as one of the parents am happy no one was hurt.
