KILLEEN (September 24, 2009)–Firefighters were called out early Thursday morning to a fire at a restaurant in Killeen.
A passer-by who noticed smoke and flames coming from the ventilation system at Buffet Palace near U.S. 190 and Fort Hood Street called the fire in around 5:30 a.m.
Three fire engines, a ladder truck and a command unit all responded to the fire.
Deputy Fire Chief Kenneth Hawthorne told News 10 the responding units had to force entry into the building but managed to quickly knock down the flames which were contained to the kitchen area.
The restaurant suffered minimal smoke and fire damage.
The Killeen Fire Marshal’s Office would be on hand to conduct the investigation while the business owner and public health officials work to reopen the restaurant Thursday.
