(March 1, 2007)—Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Missouri and Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, have introduced legislation that would require increased inspections at military hospitals and improve access to psychological counseling for returning veterans from Afghanistan and Iraq.
The bill Dignity for the Wounded Act comes on the heels of the embarrassing media coverage of the Walter Reed Military Hospital.
Recently, there has been a flurry of activity on the Hill concerning veteran's affairs.
Rep. Russ Carnahan, D-Illinois, will introduce a companion bill to the Obama/McCaskill Act to the House.
The House and Senate are expected to hold hearing next week on the medical treatment of returning veterans.
Officials from The Department of Defense and the Department and the Department of Veterans Affairs are expected to testify.
