(March 2, 2007)--A Navy chaplain who was reprimanded for appearing in uniform at a White House protest has been dismissed from the Navy.
A military jury in September found that Gordon Klingenschmitt had disobeyed a superior officer's order prohibiting him from wearing his uniform during media appearances without prior permission when he prayed in Jesus' name at the March 2006 event.
The event was protesting a Navy policy that requires nonsectarian prayers outside of religious services.
On Tuesday, a federal appeals court lifted an injunction that prevented the Navy from dismissing Klingenschmitt.
He says he signed the final paperwork Thursday morning.
Klingenschmitt says he'll continue a federal lawsuit against the Navy as a civilian and try to get reinstated.
In the meantime, he says that he's pursuing a doctorate in theology at Regent University in Virginia Beach and that he and his family have moved into student housing.
