Waco Police Arrest Grandson Of Elderly Woman Found Locked In Bedroom
Police have arrested the grandson of an elderly woman who found inside a locked bedroom of a home in South Waco.

WACO (September 30, 2009)—Waco police have arrested the grandson of an elderly woman who was found locked in the bedroom of a home in the 2400 block of South 2nd Street.
Officers arrested Brandon Shumate, 35, on Sept. 22, a day after the 80-year-old woman was found, police said Wednesday,
He was charged with injury to the elderly, police said.
The woman, whose name was not released, was unable to get out of bed on her own and was forced to lie in her own waste for some time, police said Wednesday.
According to the affidavit submitted for the arrest warrant, two Adult Protective Services workers found the elderly woman after going to the home to investigate in response to a complaint.
The two workers said the woman was lying in bed and appeared to be dehydrated.
It said she was wearing a urine-drenched diaper and that urine had soaked into the bed and pooled on the floor of the bedroom.
The two APS workers also found unexplained bruising.
The woman was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center.
