(March 6, 2007)—Waco firefighters were up early Tuesday morning after a burning car slammed into a house.
Firefighters responded to the call just after 3 a.m. Tuesday at 3308 Orchard, where they found the car burning.
The house didn’t catch on fire, but the heat from the flames melted siding and broke some windows, fire officials said.
The occupants of the car told firefighters they had run out of gasoline earlier and had filled a gas can in order to get back on the road.
They said they left the gas can in the car and said it tipped over as they were driving.
They said they were using a lighter to try to find the can when the fumes ignited.
The occupants bailed out of the moving car, firefighters said, and the car kept going until it hit the house.
No one was injured.
