ARLINGTON (October 4, 2009)--Texas officials left three children in the custody of a woman whose toddler son died after being left in an SUV while his mother worked despite indications she had a troubled history, according to a newspaper analysis of a Child Protective Services affidavit.
Citing CPS records, The Dallas Morning News reported that the agency decided in May that Keashia Dyon Matthews, 37, should retain custody of the children, even though she had been leaving them home alone.
Matthews is free on bond after she was charged with injury to a child in the Sept. 3 death of her 17-month-old son.
She turned herself in Friday.
She’s charged in the death of Darrell Singleton III.
Police spokeswoman Tiara Richard said Matthews told family and friends that she kept her son in her sport-utility vehicle while at work on Sept. 3 and checked on him repeatedly during the day.
She said she didn’t notice anything was wrong until she left work.
But she picked up her other two children before taking the toddler to the hospital.
Doctors said the child had a 107-degree temperature.

GOD BLESS ALL!! ....@austin you are right! and yes they knew cause she told family and friends, but the day they make and example out of somebody for NOT reporting what they see or hear..this is going to continue..and thats unfortunate.
