GATESVILLE (October 6, 2009)-Authorities have identified the woman killed in a Monday night highway accident as Kayla Dawn Barrow, 21, of Gatesville.

Emergency responders were sent to the scene at the intersection of SH 36 and Old Osage Road just a few minutes after 8 p.m.

Witnesses told investigators Barrow, who was alone in a white Ford Taurus, crossed from east to west on Old Osage Road and into the path of a dark blue Jeep Cherokee that was southbound on SH 36.

Four persons occupied the Jeep but all were treated for minor injuries at the scene by medical technicians from Coryell Memorial Hospital's emergency medical service.

Coryell County Justice of the Peace Larry McDonald pronounced Barrow dead at the scene at 8:41 p.m.

Gatesville police, fire and CMH EMS units responded to the scene.

Gatesville firefighters were called to wash down a large amount of gasoline that had leaked from the ruptured tank of the Ford.

Gatesville police officers are investigating the crash.

My heart was saddened by this news. Kayla was a bright light in a dark world. Joanie, Mike, Jason, Trinity and Nanno...our prayers are with you all and we love and miss you all very much. You all will never know the impact Kayla had on everyone she ever met. She was a testimony and a blessing to me and my family and I am blessed to have called her friend. Love you all, Raynell

I keep seeing Kayla mixing with the Dazzlers when I was their sponsor. She was so much fun to be around and, as someone else said, she never met a stranger! She brought joy to all who knew her and will continue to share her love of life through Trinity.
