Fourth Infantry Division Soldier Wounded in Deadly Attack

A roadside bombing Tuesday in Balad Ruz east of Baqubah claimed the life of a newly arrived 1st Infantry Division soldier and left a 4th Infantry Division soldier wounded.

It was the first combat death of a soldier from the 1st ID in Iraq.

The injured soldier is in stable condition at a Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad, military officials said.

The 1st Infantry Division is replacing the 4th ID in the region, which includes the so-called Sunni triangle where insurgents, with sympathies for jailed dictator Saddam Hussein have used home made explosive devices against U.S. forces since last summer.
