If this case was tried in the courts of publice opinion, it would have a completely different outcome. Our federal courts are out of line, out of touch and out of hand. There is no reason for the battle flag to be associated with slavery. We are living a 150 year old lie. The Confederate States did not fight to preserve slavery and the Union did not fight to abolish it. The court's decision is yet another example of what the fight was about - PERSONAL RIGHTS. When people say that the Battle Flag is offensive and should be removed, they should remember that the Christian Cross is the official symbol of the KKK. Is that the next thing that they take from us?

I agree with the majority that the confederate flag has been slandered to be considered a representation of racism and slavery. The flag is part of our American history. I consider it a past representation of the southern territory when our country was divided. Being born here in the south I would proudly fly the flag in respect to my ancestors who fought and died for this land. It should have never been removed from flying above the state capitol.

One more thing. Remember during the election and those black panthers standing in front of the voting place and think one had a stick of some kind in his hand? They never were prosectued. I could go on a rant about what offends me the other way around but one post said it all. And if Charlie Rangel were white do you really think he would still have a job? Hell no

...I saw a guy wearing a Black Panther patch, a HUGE one, on his back pack, the same patch on his jacket, and he was reading a book titled somethng about Black Power. Was I supossed to be offended by that? I wasn't. And I don't think this story is correct, as KWTX is known for making thier mistakes. I can bet the black girls provoked them to do this. After all, they ALWAYS have something to say. Black people use the race card way too much and you ask about racial tension..there ya go. This comment will probably not be posted, and if it's not, I will just keep posting my opinion in a different way until I am allowed to express my opinion. I mean, these comments posted already are offensive to a few...

I would like to note that the flag displayed is not the confederate battle flag; its the confederate naval jack that flew from battle ships, iron clads, and blocade runners of the Cofederate States Navy. The battle flag is a similar, but perfectily square. Feel free to read up on it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confederate_battle_flag#The_Battle_Flag . And i would also like to note on POF's post, the artical never said the girls were waving there purses at the all black vollyball team; it stated that a group of students had waved the flag at the team. I suspect those girls probably didnt have anything to do with that event. I will admit that it disgusts me that groups like the KKK and Neo-Nazis have adopted that flag; but its my heritage too; no diffrent than a hispanic being proud of his mexican heritage or a black being pround of his african heritage. My family fought under that flag; several died for it. Not for slavery; but in defense of the state of Georgia and state rights.

I don't agree with your thinking POF; Killeen. Freedom does 'not' come free. A certain amount of people have had to die for it. The Confererate flag that was on the two sisters purses is 'not' the Fighting/War Flag that was carried by the Southern Confederate Troops. And If anyone in the United States wants to make a hanging noose, it has 'no' implications on or toward any body. As some say(comments), this is Historical facts. Now go find somebody that is flying a Mexican or(?) other kind of Flag to make your tacky comments to/about! Thank You.

My ancestors were raised in the south and fought in the confederacy. It is a slap in the face to those who lost their lives. It is history. I agree it is really getting old for something that happened so long ago to keep being shoved down our throats. What about those of us who banning this flag are offended? I am getting to the point where I don't really care who is offended. People are tearing this country apart with any and everything they can find to do away with the history of the US. If we can fly the China flag (did you see that) then why the heck is wrong with remembering our history. The judge is wrong.

There are some messed us comments about this. Don: How many of those so blacks were slaves with no choice but to fight or be killed. The girls "shoved their purses displaying the confederate flag into the face of members of and all black team" that act alone made it a racial insult rather than just a symbol of pride of their southern heritage as any one raised in the south can tell you black or white. When used like that the girls may as well have had KKK or a noose on their their purse. The intent and insult would have been the same. Example if you use a knife in the kitchen it is a cooking implement if you take that same knife and threaten, cut or stab someone that same knife is then a dangerous weapon. Their flaunting of the flag to whom and the manner they did so made it a racial insult/slur. As the saying goes don't p_ _ _ on my foot and try to tell me it is a rain shower. Not sure if this will be published but we'll see.
