WOODWAY (October 11, 2009)--Woodway Police are still investigating a string of burglaries that happened around 2 a.m. on Saturday, many of the victims of which were out-of-town visitors who are in Waco for the annual Heart of Texas Fair and Rodeo.

Woodway police officer Shawn Bushee was patrolling the area near the Holiday Inn Express on Highway 84 at around midnight when he spotted a generator in the back of a pickup in the hotel parking lot.

When Bushee returned to the area at 2 a.m. Saturday he noticed the generator had been moved to the bed of another pickup.

He stopped the truck and found more than $5,000 worth of items inside, stolen from other vehicles including car stereos, phone chargers, shopping bags, and rodeo equipment.

Bushee arrested the four adults and two teenagers who were in the pickup.

Most of the recovered items were returned to the victims, who reported significant damage to their vehicles.

The six suspects are charged with burglary of a vehicle and could face organized crime charges.

Good work, Woodway P. D. This underscores what we already knew: Thieves and lawbreakers are not welcome in Woodway! Our police presence does much more than issue tickets for speeding and rolling through stop signs. The Woodway Public Safety Dept. lives up to its name. They work very hard to keep this community safe. I hope the thieves get a sentence stiff enough to teach them a lesson: Want 'stuff' or money? WORK FOR IT!!!!

Great job to the police officer that noticed the theft. That's the kind of public service that tweeks our memory cells of a time when we could all rest at night knowing that folks wouldn't just turn a blind eye to something out of place.
