Heavy Rain Leaves Highways Impassable In Some Areas Tuesday
Heavy rain produced flooding Tuesday left some area highways impassable, forced evacuation of an apartment complex and led to a flash flood warning for Hill County.

(October 13, 2009)—A flash flood warning for Hill County expired at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday after a rainy morning produced widespread flooding that left some highways impassable and forced the evacuation of an apartment complex in Whitney.
As much as three inches of rain had fallen on some areas of Hill County by midmorning, and forecasters said another two inches could fall before the activity tapered off.
Officials evacuated residents of the Creekside Apartments in Whitney because of the rising water.
They were later allowed to return home.
The American Red Cross, meanwhile, is working with King Memorial Methodist Church in Whitney to ensure an emergency shelter is available should another evacuation be necessary.
The shelter is at 502 S. Colcord St. in Whitney.
Tuesday morning, flooding was reported on Highway 66 and Highway 81 north and west of Itasca, Highway 22 west of Peoria, Highway 67 between Blum and Covington and FM 933 near Lake Whitney.
FM 309 was closed at Cottonwood Creek and high water led to the closure of a number of county roads including CR 1258, CR 1240, CR 1248, CR 4419, CR 4230, CR 1439, CR 1450, CR 1430, CR 1321, CR 1414, CR 1207, CR 1256, CR 4431, CR 4419, and CR 4430.
Some street and highway flooding was occurring in the Waco area late Tuesday morning and very heavy rain was falling over parts of Bell County.
In Navarro County, an urban and small stream flood advisory was in effect until 11:15 a.m. Monday.
In Navarro County, water was reported over roadways on FM 667 South of Frost, Highway 22 West of Frost, and Highway 14 at the railroad trestle overpass, and CR NW 0160 at the intersection with CR NW 0190.
A high water rescue was underway Tuesday afternoon on NE 1030 outside of Corsicana after a motorist became stranded while driving on a flooded roadway.
The motorist was pulled to safety, authorities said.
A flood warning was issued Tuesday afternoon for Chambers Creek near Rice in Navarro County.
In Limestone County, an urban and small stream flood advisory was in effect until 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Forecasters said water should begin to recede in flooded areas.
There’s still a chance of more rain this evening.
