NAVASOTA (October 14, 2009)--He was entrusted with teaching five and six-year-olds in Navasota for several years.
Now, he's accused of violating that trust.
Roberto Andaverde, 34, was arrested last week and charged with indecency with a child; days later the news is reaching parents.
Officials from the Navasota Independent School District said they learned of the allegations on Thursday and placed Andaverde on administrative leave.
Since then, they say they've received additional information, and Andaverde will not be coming back.
Navasota I.S.D. Interim Superintendent Rory Gesch said home visits to the families of children in Andaverde's class weren't made until this week and no other communication was sent out.
Navasota Police said they began investigating Thursday and arrested Andaverde on Friday.
"This incident allegedly happened during school hours," said Lt. Jorge DeLaCruz, of the Navasota Police Department.
Andaverde was a bilingual kindergarten teacher who taught in the district for several years.
He won over some parents, who said Tuesday that they were sticking by him.
"Her daughter was in the same class, his class, and she didn't, she never had any problems," said Amarita Enriques, speaking through translator Irma Alvarado.
Mother Elvia Garcia's daughter is in Andaverde's class, this year.
"It's like they're planning it against him, she don't (sic) think it's nothing real," said parent Eliva Garcia, speaking through translator Irma Alvarado.
However, not everyone was as supportive.
"They really need to do a whole lot better background checks to make sure they don't have tendencies towards children," said Angel Garcia, a grandparent with grandchildren in the district.
Navasota Police said they are still investigating and aren't sure if there are other victims or if there will be other charges.
Andaverde remains in the Grimes County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

They are investigating this case in more depth. Seems like the same kid made the same accusations last year with another teacher... What a way to ruin a person's life. After this it really doesn't matter if he is innocent, his reputation has been soiled. I just hope they find the truth and maybe should investigate the parents if this is a pattern.
I really am glad this teacher is behind bars now. He is in jail for a reason, lot of people might not think it is true because they have known this teacher for years but police do investigations and don't you think he is in there for a reason. It is a shame that he was even and educator because as a parent you expect your child to be safe at school. He is gonna get what he deserves.
ok first of all alisha u r just plain ignorant for those remrks, second of all i dont care who the teacher is if i even suspected or had a bad feeling about a teacher i would remove my child from that school all together. i hope this guy gets whats coming to him and i am so sorry to the family and child this happened to..
