WACO (October 16, 2009)—A four-vehicle chain reaction accident Friday afternoon in Waco sent one person to the hospital and snarled traffic for a time at the intersection of Lake Shore Drive and Hillcrest.
The accident, involving a passenger car and three SUVs, happened just after 3 p.m. when the driver of the car, who police said was an elderly woman, failed to stop for a red light as she turned from Hillcrest onto Lake Shore.
The car struck an SUV in the intersection.
That SUV spun out of control and struck another SUV on Lake Shore.
The third SUV then struck a four SUV.
The only person injured in the accident was a passenger in the SUV that the car struck.
The victim was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center.
Information was not immediately available about the severity of the injuries.
Police did not issued any citations.

Smeone - According to the article's text, it was the police who said the driver was an elderly woman. The reporter did not classify her as such based on personal bias.
I agree with Waco has the worst drivers comment. And the writer (nate cornelius), may 'not' know what the actual definition of an elderly person actually is). Stop and think rachel(since you are fairly young, maybe over 45-50 is elderly to you??) Stop and think about it!!! Same goes for you cf.
Waco and the areas around it have some of the worst drivers in the country. They don't signal, run red lights, tailgate, don't even understand the concept of a traffic circle, and are generally braindead when it comes to responsible driving. Add cell phones, texting, loud music where they can't hear horns, driver seats tilted back like a "Lazy Boy Recliner",etc. and it becomes fatal or near. Driving is a privilage, not a right, and it should be done with the utmost caution and concern for others. Waco PD needs more traffic patrols, red light cameras, etc.
